Herb & Helen Hammond Scholarship

Herb Hammond was one of the several key community member who were instrumental in establishing LBCC. He served on the LBCC Board of Education from December 1966 to 1986. Herb served as a board chairman three times, participating in the selection of three LBCC presidents. serving on several state committees and was a strong advocate for vocational education.

In recognition of his years of service and dedication to the the college and the community, Herb was awarded the LBCC Distinguished Service Award in 1986. His wife, Helen Hammond, received an honorary associates degree for her support of the college and for sharing Herb with LBC and the community.

The Hammond scholarship is available to students enrolled in 12 or more credits in any major at LBCC. LBCC/OSU Degree Partnership credits may count toward full-time enrollment (students must be enrolled in 6 credits at LBCC). The recipient may be a first or second year student seeking a degree/certificate and must be an Oregon resident in Linn or Benton counties. International students may also apply. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 for transfer majors or 2.5 for professional technical programs. The student should show financial aid, a FAFSA is not required. A student may receive the scholarship more than once as long as they remain in good academic standing according to established LBCC guidelines. The award may be used for tuition/frees, books, childcare, living expenses and/or special needs.
